The Spelling Bee

Can you believe when I did my brain dump I didn't mention going to see The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee? I know! Definitely a sign of my mental state this week. So I got to add another poster to my musicals page. I must say that it is kind of a pain hand editing that page, but I'm so fussy about things being in alphabetical order, I don't see any other way around it.

Some of the performances in town had celebrity spellers (Ken Hoffman of the Houston Chronicle did one), but not mine. However we did have two celebrity audience members in George Sr. and Barbara Bush. No matter feelings of politics I still respect the office of president and people who have held the office regardless of party (with one huge current exception). When I told my mom about it she said she had never seen a current or former president in person before. That was an interesting thought. There are probably many, many people in this country who would say the same. This is the second time for me and George Sr. Last time was at a Texans game.

The musical was funny as expected. In elementary school I was a champion speller and even represented my school in an area competition. It was a private school so the competition wasn't THAT big, but still. I'm a good speller and always have been although I feel like I'm losing my edge somewhat in my old age (and because of spellcheck). I'll never forget learning the word procrastinate because my spelling tutor was mad at me for not studying. I remember my spelling booklet with the lists of words to study. Elementary school was a good time for me.
