I'm going to see Les Miserables on Saturday. This will be time number six. I was listening to the soundtrack this week in preparation. Good thing I have it mostly memorized since I am still half deaf (just call me Beethoven). In the beginning this post was going to be how Stars is my favorite song in the show.
But then... oh, but then. Then they came in a tumble. A Heart Full of Love. Do You Hear the People Sing? One Day More. On My Own. Drink with Me. Empty Chairs at Empty Tables. How can I possibly choose among all these songs? They are all so wonderful which is why I guess it is at the top of my Broadway Musicals list in the Drama category (along with Rent, a show I get to see again in another month).
It's hard to explain how much I love this musical. It is one of my highest passions from something that is a passion, so it is pretty high up there. I had no preconceptions and frankly knew very little about it when I first saw it and I fell in love with it immediately. Just listening to the CD brings tears to my eyes in many places, although it must be said that I have the complete symphonic recording so when I listen I am listening to every note of the score.
This will be the first regional production I have seen and while I'm a little nervous about that aspect I am looking forward to it.
So how did I pick the video to share here? It was hard and I lost an hour of my life to You Tube going back and forth through the songs, but in the end I chose the most iconic song from the show.
