Last night The Boyfriend and I went to see Wil Wheaton vs Paul and Storm at Fitzgerald’s in Houston.
Paul and Storm are a nerd comedy music duo and they opened the show (which started at 9 p.m.) with a string of hilarious songs. So much goodness I can’t pick a favorite, but I will share with you this video they had done earlier about how slow George RR Martin writes.
After that set there was an intermission and then Wil Wheaton came out to tell stories. I have been a long time reader of Wil’s blog and I am of course a big Star Trek: TNG fan so I was very excited to see him and he did not disappoint. He was fantastic and funny and outrageous.
Then Paul and Storm came back and Wil told stories with musical accompaniment. They ended with the Captain Wife’s Lament which should normally take 3 or 4 minutes but it took 29 minutes (it was being timed) thanks to all the geek interruptions and jokes. Fabulous, and the Houston crowd was raucous in the very best, nerdy way possible.
Did I mention that this is a rock club so, no chairs. I was standing for the whole show which was almost 3 hours (in unfortunately chosen footwear). We didn’t leave until after midnight and I didn’t go to sleep until 2 a.m. (that’s late for an old person like me) but it was worth the sore feet and tired body. I had SO. MUCH. FUN.
