The Fall

I fell.  Hard.  I was in a hotel in San Antonio for my annual music teacher's conference.  I was stepping out of the shower and forgot that the shower was raised up.  I stepped hard on the bath mat which then slipped out from under me.  I landed on my right shoulder and ended up flat on the bathroom floor with my head underneath the sink.

I ended up going to an emergency clinic, where after TWO AND A HALF HOURS, I was told that it was not a break, just a severe bruise.  The doctor gave me an arm sling and heavy duty ibuprofen.    It has now been three weeks.  At the beginning I could barely lift my arm a few inches.  The muscle wouldn't go any further.  Over time I have regained almost all of my motion, but now the shoulder joint itself is sore and popping occasionally.

I will see my doctor next week and I am guessing I will have to do some additional follow up.  Sigh.  If only I could go back to that moment back when I pulled back the shower curtain and before I stepped out.

By the way, this is another reason why February was a terrible black hole, and it is the reason I had exactly one soda in the month of February.
