I promised I would stay out of this and yet I can't help myself.
.) People complaining about evacuation have no true idea how big the Houston area is, how big Harris County is and how big Texas is. When you are asking friends in Dallas if they are ok, you don't understand.
.) This size is why you are having problem understanding that they could not open shelters ahead of time. Where? Kingwood? Clear Lake? Katy? Pearland? The Woodlands? Do you understand the distance between these places? No you don't. I'm not even adding in locations in Fort Bend County, Chambers County, Galveston County, Liberty County, Brazoria County. My doctor is in Fort Bend County and I don't think much of going an hour to see her. This is life in Houston.
.)The mayor of Houston is not the mayor of Harris County.
.) Evacuation orders were issued. People did evacuate. People had the information. Grown ups made decisions.
.) Finally and most importantly. This is an UNPRECEDENTED event. UNPRECEDENTED. I don't care if Spock himself came down and made every logical, rational, intelligent decision possible. It is a natural DISASTER. It is of the likes that have never been seen before. NEVER BEEN SEEN BEFORE. Sometimes, as humans, we are overwhelmed by nature. We were awed on Monday with the solar eclipse and we are awed now by the power of our own planet.
